Welcome

White Structure

Dr Salmah Eva-Lina Lawrence

I am a transformation strategist and I work to decolonise international development through my roles in executive management and governance. Currently I am Director Systemic Change & Partnerships at IWDA. In my scholarly life I research decolonial ethics, epistemology and feminism drawing from the ethics and epistemologies of my own Papua New Guinean and matrilineal culture within a broader Oceanic / Pasifika culture. I built my expertise in governance, strategy, and the management of complexity through working for a global advisory firm in London and New York leading program and risk management businesses.

I have a Master of Arts International Relations, Masters’ International Development and Masters’ Business Administration, all from Deakin University. My PhD in Gender is from the ANU where I am Honorary Associate Professor. I am also an Adjunct Fellow at Macquarie University. My first degree was in Politics, Philosophy and History at Birkbeck College, University of London.

This website provides access to my courses on decolonisation and also, in time, to some of my publications.

What People Say

“Language really matters. It was one of those moments when Dr Salmah Eva-Lina Lawrence asked the audience to consider the impact of the language we use  - she suggested a shift in the terms used commonly across the sector. Rather than developing / developed world, we could adopt majority / minority world. It was wonderful to hear these terms resonated with the audience and picked up in dialogue throughout subsequent sessions."
